Just getting over a case of something - my voice was so raw all week I wasn’t able to record the vocals for Song Cycle #31 until today, putting me a full 7 days behind schedule.  That would bum me out more, but I’ve spent my sick time working on a number of wonderful projects, so I really can’t complain.

Yesterday was the final session of Fat Camp’s 3-week developmental lab.  I took off from work this last week and spent 10 hour days with the actors and creative team retooling the score and plot to build the show.  It was a fantastic experience to work with so many good people, and to see the show grow a great deal.  There’s nothing better than peeking around from the writers’ table to see the audience tapping their feet in unison to one of the numbers.

On top of that, I’ve rounded up a new band to perform some of the Song Cycle music this August 30th (10pm) at the National Underground.  We’ll be doing folk-rock takes on FeverSafari and an MIA cover among others.  The band consists of a number of old collaborators and a few new friends - I’m excited to see how it all comes together.  This one night band’ll be called Teen Girl Scientist Monthly.  I think.  For now.

I’m also looking forward to Shaina Taub’s (sometimes) monthly Song Forum later this month.  I was given some “challenges” by other writers at our last session, and I think these tunes’ll be showing up in the Song Cycle soon.  Lastly, I’m starting another band project with the very talented Brandon Uranowitz - “Charm Bracelet” is the first song I’ve written for it, and it should be up on the site within the hour.
